WHAT IS TINNITUS?

Do you have a constant low grade ringing  in your ears? Then you could be suffering from Tinnitus. The Australian Tinnitus Association states that around 18% of all Australians will suffer from tinnitus in their lives.

WHAT CAUSES TINNITUS?

  • Loud noises
  • Stress
  • Fatigue
  • Some medications
  • Smoking

TINNITUS can be associated with hearing loss,however,it can be present with normal hearing.

WHAT TO DO ABOUT TINNITUS?

  • Ensure the ringing in your ears isn’t due to wax build up in the ear canal.
  • Vitamin B12 can help.
  • Surgery for underlying ear problems is useful.
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to learn how cope with the condition is useful.

According to Australian Hearing, an Mp3 player at full volume has the same decibel as a chainsaw! Loud noise is a definite cause of Tinnitus and young people need to be aware of this danger to their future health.
